Martin Luther

... was born in 1483. It was in 1517 that he nailed his 95 Theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg (where he was a Professor of Theology); he defended them at the Diet of Worms four years later. He died in 1546, after suffering from various ailments for many years.
